A Note on Our Films

A Note on Our Films

The films of the course are not just for illustration. They are essential sources for our studies. I will introduce each film in class, providing some background to help you understand the film. I’ll also provide a handout with production details and a few starting questions. When the film is over, take a few minutes to jot down important details, quotations, scenes, etc. These will help you complete the Film Worksheet and prepare for discussion on Monday.

A Viewer Advisory

These films require a viewer advisory. Many of these films include intense physical violence and explicit sexuality. Some include sexual violence. Misogyny is rife, as are outdated gender models. Be forewarned. If you are sensitive, you should review the IMDB parent advisory for the films that we are watching.

Film Watching Etiquette

And another kind of advisory. Watching a film should be an immersive experience. Please do not be a distraction to yourself or others during film showings. Please turn off your phone and put it out of sight during the film. If you cannot sit through a film without recourse to electronic devices, this might not be a good course for you.
